Google Grow
Internal User Research and Design aimed at increasing job satisfaction.
THE PROBLEM
Google wanted to revamp their internal learning and jobs portal, making it a searchable and trackable resource for employee's career growth.
While working at Google, I was a UX Generalist on a small team. The Grow site had two missions: 1) Serve up courses that encouraged employee growth and development and 2) Act as a resource for employees and managers seeking internal transfers.
The collections project was aimed at revamping Grow's course catalog from lists of single courses into robust, bundled, and trackable curriculum.
HIGH LEVEL TIMELINE

MAKE OF THE TEAM

MY ROLE
As the primary UX Generalist, I was responsible for research, ideation, and testing.
Baseline Testing
After initial stakeholder interviews and analysis, we conducted in-depth interviews with Google employees and Learning Managers (superusers of Grow) to understand the pain points and usefulness of the existing system.
The existing system was hampered by an antiquated Learning Management system. It was also built to allow for ultimate flexibility for the course creators. This flexibility caused a lot of misunderstanding and dissatisfaction by learners.

Concept Testing
Several concepts were created, each focusing on a different type of course bundle and tracking method. These concepts were tested with Google employees.
Using ranking data on specific elements, user input, and best practices in material design, a final concept was created and launched to great success.
.
Journey Mapping
After baseline testing and readouts, journey maps were created and shared with the team. This helped define how new learning collections would be accessed, enrolled in, and complete as well as which systems the collection would integrate with.
